​The Early Childhood Advisory Council of West Virginia created by Executive Order in July, 2010 with the mission to create a high-quality, coordinated system of services that support early childhood development.

Governor's Internship Program

The Governor's Internship Program offers high-achieving college students the opportunity to step beyond the classroom into the world of experiential learning by participating in coordinated internships in private businesses, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. Students gain knowledge of the real world work environment, learn valuable communication and leadership skills, obtain experience and gain references for the future. Students may also use the internship experience to evaluate current and future career choices.

Governor's Schools

The Governor's Schools of West Virginia are residential summer sessions for academically and/or artistically talented students from across West Virginia. The programs currently offered are the Governor's Honors Academy, the Governor's School for the Arts, the Governor's School for Mathematics and Sciences, and the Governor's School of Entrepreneurship​.

Governor's STEM Initiative

West Virginia’s STEM for all approach will create students who are critical and creative thinkers, problem solvers, innovators, and collaborators that have the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to compete and succeed in the state’s emerging economy.

Imagination Library

The Imagination Library is designed to provide free, age-appropriate books monthly to all eligible children in currently specific counties of West Virginia.  An international program created by Dolly Parton, Imagination Library of West Virginia is currently active in 39 counties. Since 2007, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has mailed over 1.4 million books to the children of West Virginia.

West Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission​

On April 10, 2009 the West Virginia Legislature passed Senate Bill 404, which created the West Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission. The mission of the Commission is to promote awareness, celebrate the unique creation of the State of West Virginia and the role of its people during the Civil War era, and its continuing effect on our people.
